Before starting
Brickfield Autos in 1993 I'd done my mechanical apprenticeship working for the
BBC on fleet vehicles .
After
qualifying I did a spell at a Jag dealer before working for a local firm for
five years doing general mechanics on all makes of car.
I've been into
Vdubs since school and got a bug as my first car, converted it to a Baja and
kept it for about 10 years.
At present I have
a '72 bug, a '72 bay window and a 1955 Oval awaiting restoration. I've had
the bug for nearly 10 years and the bay for about 5.
When I got the
bug I started work straight away converting it to a pick-up using ideas I'd had
over the years. The Bay was a bit of a wreck on arrival, but looks good
now. Click the My Vdubs link above for more information on the pick-up and
the bay. The Oval is a bit of a state, but as soon as work commences I'll
be adding some pics to the site.
I've done restos
on Karmann Ghias, Type 1s, 2s and 3s, split campers and bay campers, some back
to stock, some cal look and some with modifications. Not all the work I do
is restoration - I also carry out MOT work, welding, servicing and repairs as
well as lowering and engine work. Some customers like to contract me for
the whole job start to finish (I've even been known to build bespoke interiors
if necessary). Some customers like to do as much work as they can
themselves and bring their vehicle to me for welding or spraying - either way is
fine with me and I'm always happy to give advice.
